Qualification Information
These regulated qualifications meet the requirements of Defra and The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018.
This Super Bundle combines four complementary courses:
• Level 3 Award in Canine Care, Behaviour & Welfare (AIM Qualifications)
• Level 2 Award in Canine First Aid (iPET Network)
• Licensing Guidance for Kennels Boarding (Flashcards & Quizzes)
• Live 1-to-1 Tutorial – Kennels Boarding (Licensing & Inspection Preparation)
Together they meet and exceed Defra’s requirements for anyone operating or employed in a licensed dog boarding or kennels business.
The Level 3 Award provides the depth of knowledge needed to achieve the Higher Standard under licensing criteria, while the Level 2 First Aid Award ensures that staff can respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies.
The Licensing Guidance course breaks down the statutory regulations into practical, inspector-focused insights, and the 1-to-1 tutorial personalises this knowledge to your specific premises and procedures.
Under Defra’s statutory guidance, the licence holder or designated manager must be suitably qualified.
All staff responsible for animal care must be able to:
• Identify normal and abnormal canine behaviour.
• Recognise and respond to signs of pain, injury, suffering, disease, or distress.
• Take appropriate steps to prevent or mitigate welfare risks.
The guidance states that staff should “hold a formal qualification such as a Level 2 qualification regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) appropriate for their role, or demonstrate that they have relevant and sufficient knowledge and experience.”
To achieve the Higher Standard, at least one full-time staff member must hold a relevant Ofqual Level 3 qualification.
For reference, see Defra’s guidance for kennels boarding:
Dog Kennel Boarding – Licensing Statutory Guidance for Local Authorities
By completing this four-part bundle, you’ll hold the qualifications and practical readiness required to run or work confidently within a licensed kennels or boarding establishment and demonstrate your commitment to the highest standards of animal welfare.
