Learning Objectives
Course 1 – AIM Qualifications Level 3 Award in Canine Care, Behaviour & Welfare
Unit 1: Canine Behaviour
- Understand canine body language and communication.
- Recognise and address stress and aggression triggers.
- Apply humane behaviour-management and enrichment strategies.
- Understand how stress and environment affect group dynamics in day-care settings.
Unit 2: Care of Dogs in Kennels, Day Care and Home Boarding
- Understand causes, transmission, and prevention of disease.

- Ensure safe admission, supervision, and exit of dogs.
- Use PPE correctly when handling multiple dogs.

Course 2 – iPET Network Level 2 Award in Canine First Aid
Unit 3: First Aid for Dogs
- Classify emergencies and understand the objectives of first aid.
- Handle dogs safely in emergencies.
- Carry out a primary survey (temperature, pulse, respiration).
- Understand CPR, abdominal thrusts, and recovery positioning.
- Treat wounds, bleeding, fractures, and apply bandages.
- Identify and manage heatstroke, poisoning, bloat, convulsions, and water inhalation.
- Assemble and maintain a canine first-aid kit.
Course 3 – Licensing Guidance (Dog Day Care)
This interactive course simplifies the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 for dog day care operators. Flashcards and quizzes help you master:

Together they meet Defra’s licensing requirements for anyone operating or working within a licensed dog day care. The Level 3 Award supports achievement of the Higher Standard, and the Level 2 First Aid Award demonstrates readiness for emergency situations. The Licensing Guidance and 1-to-1 Tutorial ensure full compliance with the latest inspector expectations.
Defra requires that:
- Licence holders and staff are competent to identify normal and abnormal behaviour.
- They can recognise and mitigate pain, suffering, injury, disease, or distress.
- They hold relevant regulated qualifications or can prove equivalent knowledge and experience.
To meet the Higher Standard, one permanent, full-time staff member must hold a relevant Level 3 qualification.

Achievement is through a portfolio of evidence meeting qualification criteria.
Level 3 Award in Canine Care, Behaviour & Welfare
- Short written assignments (200–500 words).

- Written and practical evidence of first-aid skills such as CPR and bandaging.

Pass / Refer
Each assignment is graded Pass or Refer. Two complimentary resubmissions are included; further resits cost £25. Extensions can be granted where necessary.
Certification
Completed portfolios are independently verified under Ofqual standards. Certificates are issued by AIM Qualifications and iPET Network within 2–6 months. Interim confirmation can be provided for licensing applications.
